Patent Approval-28 October 2025
Our application titled “Microorganism-Targeted Nanoformulations Containing Antimicrobial Component(s)” and numbered 2020BBF005-20200827 has been accepted by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. The invention was jointly developed with researchers from the Molecular Biology and Genetics and Bioengineering Departments at Yıldız Technical University. The invention involves the creation of nanoformulations containing peptides designed and synthesized based on bacteriophage bacterial binding proteins (RBP), and their effectiveness against bacteria has been demonstrated. Treatment with vancomycin and oxacillin in the nanoformulation against antibiotic-resistant bacteria showed 2 to 9 times more effective results compared to treatment without these formulations. Not only was the antibacterial effect increased, but toxicity was also reduced, and controlled release of the drugs was demonstrated.
With this discovery, an important nanoformulation-based agent against antibiotic-resistant bacteria has been developed, paving the way for its commercialization. We would like to thank ourcolleagues, whom I am proud to be teamed up, for their hard work.

Our TUBITAK 2515-COST Project Proposal titled "In silico Antigenic Characterization of Hemagglutinin Protein N-Glycosylation in Swine Influenza A (H3N2) Virus Family" has been awarded. The project aims to shed light on structural mechanisms of hemagglutunin (HA) protein glycosylation in the most frequently observed strains of Swine Influenza A virus recently through computational techniques. A detailed understanding of the mechanisms involved in glycosylation, which leads to increased viral infection and escape from antigenic neutralization, is critical for accurately predicting the future evolution of A/H3N2 viruses and being able to cope with the novel strains through vaccination or novel antibody therapies. Semanur Bulut, MSc student of our group, who also made a substantial contribution to the proposal, will be the investigator in the project. The project will align with the aims of "European Swine Influenza Network ESFLU - COST CA21132 project.
